What is Expen$eTracker?

Expen$eTracker is for the home-based business. Expen$eTracker allows you to record your mileage, vehicle expenses, mortgage/rent, utility bills, medical expenses, etc. At the end of the year you print off a report for your accountant to use for income tax deductions.

Expense Categories and Types

Expenses are grouped according to category. You can enter an unlimited number of categories. Each category can contain an unlimited number of types. For example, you could have a category Vehicle. Under the category Vehicle you would enter the types that pertain to your vehicle. Some types you could use would be Car Wash, Gas Receipts, Repairs/Maintenance, and Insurance.

Record all your trips that you take for business. Record the odometer reading at the start and end of your trip, the destination and reason for the trip.

You can use kilometres or miles, litres or gallons.

The total kilometers for the year and the kilometers you used your car for business will print on the report for your accountant.

Expense Details (view screen)

Keep the invoices from your hydro, gas, water and other utility companies that you receive.  Keep any medical receipts that are not covered under a benefit plan.  Enter all receipts by category.

Keep the receipts everytime you put gas in your vehicke.  Enter the date and dollar amounts from the receipts.

Tax Report


When tax season arrives and you are ready to take your books to your accountant, print the tax report and include it. If you are diligent about entering your receipts through the year, this step will take you only a few minutes.

Moving

If you move part way through the tax year, record the date you left the old address.  Enter your new address and the date you moved there.  The receipts you enter will default to your new address.  If you missed some from your old address, not a problem.  Select the old address from the drop down.

A New Vehicle

If you purchase or lease a new vehicle part way through the year, record the date you sold, returned or junked the old vehicle.  Enter the information for your new vehicle.  The receipts you enter will default to your new vehicle.  If you missed some from your old vehicle, not a problem.  Select the old vehicle from the drop down.
